How We Started Out

Calma Koala™ came about when Sue (a renowned Sydney midwife and mothercraft nurse) together with her sister in law, Jennie (Business Owner) wanted to create a uniquely Australian toy that helped parents calm their baby. After the devastating 2020 bush fires which saw the loss of hundreds of Koalas, Sue and Jennie knew the toy needed to be a Koala. There is a beautiful link between a sleepy Koala and a new born baby.

Sue is a Midwife and Mothercraft nurse with over thirty five years of experience. Jennie founded her own fashion label The Shirt Muse and has a post graduate cert in Collective Entrepreneurship. Together they bring a unique skill set of both experience and expertise to Calma Koala™.

Calma Koala™ is a calming sensory development toy for newborns to toddlers. Designed and made in Australia using medical grade silicone. Calma Koala™ provides comfort to babies and parents whilst also raises money and awareness of the declining Koala population in Australia.

Calma Koala™ will give back to the community through several channels.

Firstly; they pledge to donate $1 from the sale of every Calma Koala™ to go directly to the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie.

Secondly; Calma Koala™ will become an online place where parents can go and source useful information on ways to calm their baby.
